About Us

Governance

The “Bramhall High School Governing Board Handbook” provides an introduction to the organisation and role of our school governors. The Department for Education’s “Governance Handbook” goes into greater detail of effective school governance. The members of the school’s current governing board, along with their interests, are listed and detailed in the “Governing Body Membership” document.

The school and the Governing Board is always ready to hear from parents, staff or community members that are interested in supporting the school by becoming a governor. There may not always be an immediate vacancy but we would keep your contact details and approach you when that situation changes.

Governors come from every walk of life. This helps ensure the governing board has sufficient diversity of views and experience. Governors are committed individuals who want to make a difference and give their time freely for the school.

Governors:

  • have a strong commitment to the role and to improving outcomes for students;
  • have the inquisitiveness to question and analyse along with the willingness to learn;
  • have good inter-personal skills;
  • be willing to promote meaningful and effective engagement with parents, staff and the wider community;
  • have the time and inclination to fulfil their role adequately and to engage with the school. For example, as well as the scheduled meetings governors are linked with a department, should attend open evenings or parents evenings on a rota basis and are actively encouraged to attend evening school events;
  • be committed to sharing in all the roles required in an outstanding governing board.

Skills and experience we are particularly looking for from new members of the governing body:

  • expertise in budgeting and driving financial efficiency;
  • expertise in performance management and employment issues;
  • marketing, community and effective communication.

Please contact Sarah Brown, the Chair of Governors, via the school (c/o dbrennan@bramhallhigh.stockport.sch.uk ) if you would like to ask anything about the role of a governor at Bramhall High. Thank you.
